in 2018 the UAE received a new armor upgrade for their french Leclerc tanks. This new armor upgrade, provided by German arms industry, uses the same reactive armor modules ("CLARA") that are used on the German PUMA IFV. The reactive armor modules are intended to increase protection and survivability on the vulnerble sides of the tank, similar to the US Abrams "TUSK" (Tank Urban Survival Kit) and British Challenger 2 "TES" (Theatre Entry Standard" upgrade. The add-on armor upgrade increases all-round protection for the sides and even the rear of the turret is armored as well, enhancing survivability of the crew in combat against Missiles and RPG's. The upgrade gives the UAE one of the best protected tank in the world. It also features a Remote controlled Weapon Station (MG) on top of turret for the commander, so he can engage enemy infantry from the inside, while the gunner engages armored targets with the cannon. The UAE forces used Leclerc tanks during the Yemen war in 2018 where it proved very effective helping to capture the city of Al-Hudaydah. No tank was lost.
